We had a small leak from our fridge and water got onto and under our laminate flooring. I've since pulled up the flooring and dried out the area but I'll need to patch it for now. We don't have the funds to replace all of the flooring in our living/dining room, so this will have to do. Any ideas?

I'm thinking about fitting the patch as close as possible and use transition molding to "connect" it to the rest of the flooring. So the patch would be very obvious but I can't think of any better ideas. Has anyone else ever had to try this?

Are the floors glued down or floating?

Check if they put flooring under your cabinets. might be able to harvest a piece there and replace it with something ugly. If not, steal some pieces from under the fridge. No one will notice if those are gone.

Sorry, I have a box left over of the flooring.

Post a pic if you can.

Did just a small section get damaged or did it spread to a very large area?

If it is a small section, you can pull up the damaged pieces and reinstall with the flooring you have in the box. Hopefully that exact floor is still available if you need to buy a box or two in order to do the job.

If you do not have a table saw and/or miter saw Home Depot rents out a laminate cutter that looks like a giant paper cutter. I have to or even a full day rental is not very much,. It will be a lot cheaper than buying a saw and a quality high tooth count blade. You can also rent a saw if needed.

Save the old pieces on the end rows and those that are notched as templates for cutting the new planks. Always triple check before actually cutting!!

If it's a small section and you are a bit unsure of doing it yourself or need some tools -- have a BBQ.

Fire up the smoker or grill. Get some prime beef invite your handy friends & family over and knock it out as a team. -- no drinking until the job is done, lol
