Mosquitos and flies are driving me crazy in Dallas this summer. Im considering screening in our back patio so Ill actually get some use out of it. My wife is against a traditional screened in patio, from an aesthetics perspective. I'm curious about the retractable patio screens. Anyone have feedback on those, positive or negative? Recommendations for installers in DFW?

Thanks!

We went with Shade Works of Texas based on a rec from an earlier thread. Ours are in production and we were advised 10-11 weeks between paying deposit and install.

I have had other guys out before and felt more comfortable with how Shade Works approached solving a couple of tricky areas.

They are not cheap depending on options. But seeing neighbors and friends with them and I am confident it will increase our use of the patios.

No advice on that solution, sorry.
Some even report the skeeters get trapped inside the netting with you haha.

Long time in Aggieland the solution has been a framed screen maker ala Enercon.
These are mounted between 4x6's every 3-4ft with butterfly fasteners.
Seasonally, these screens can come off (& repaired) to be an open porch again OR
replaced with Lexan framed panels ala a winter Sunroom.

When designing in a new house, usually a knee wall is built to shorten the screens and help lower the damage to them, prevent incoming weather.

One of my former players works for a screen company. I'll send him a note.

EDIT: Call Danny at Universal Screens....four six nine 823 eighty three twenty six. He's an installer but gets compensated if he brings in business. I've known him for 20 years. Tell him Coach sent you.

I did a 12' drop down screen about a year ago with Longhorn Screens out of Denton. Owner was easy to work with and I'm happy with the install and product.
