And to clarify the pic is just an example of her patio. I didn't get a pick of the loose bricks but they are on the edge. You can pick them up and move them. They are completely free of the base layer.

If you don't want to use an edge restraint, the brick borders are usually a different pattern and are mortared in. If there is a sound slab beneath, it could be as simple as some construction adhesive or cleaning the substrate and re-mortaring them in place.
