I'm having trouble controlling humidity levels in my home, and I'd like to have some testing done. I think a whole home dehumidifier is likely in my future, but I don't want to throw the device into play without confirming.

How does one find an HVAC "engineer" of sorts? That isn't affiliated with an AC/Heat company?

I'd like to get a blower test done to see how tight/open the home envelope is, as well as any other testing of the current system for its sizing, home humidity levels, etc.

Anyone ever done this?

When I was building houses we did a blower door test on every house we built (before siding/brick veneer went up). I don't see why you couldn't do one. You will have to fog your house to find the leak points. Then once you find the leak points, what are you going to do about it?

Might open up an expensive can of worms if you want to get the envelope tight.

Some ideas to pursue

The power company may have times to schedule a blower door test for you and maybe for free.
Then you can hire a HVAC co to solve the leak points ID'd.

The ideal solution used to be AeroSeal = a one step does all ID/FIX
who sealed the entire ductwork with 10yr warranty (think Fix-a-Flat inside tires)

Impressed by the builder that did his own! Maybe one in your area will hire out his crew?

Did they not have to pass the blower test to get your energy efficiency cert? Also who did the install? Is the builder not behind this work? I'm sorry if I missed those details already.
