I grew up in a houshold where my parents never put the AC down in the day below 77 or so. Night time was always 72 or 73.

My wife grew up in a house where they turned it down to 69F at night to sleep. Ive been having some ****tly sleep times, so I googled some research and it says ideal temperature for best sleep is between 61 and 68. They said sleeping between 71 and 74 is "pretty warm" and could possibly lead to poor sleep quality.

That was surprisingly low to me.

Anyone have any experience lowering the temperature and did it have any profound impact on your sleep?

70 at night, but will depend on humidity.

Well, most articles today are not well researched and are prone to their own zip code and age so "grain of salt" applies.

Older sleepers ages 60-80 seem to require it warmer, perhaps 72-74F
if a foot warmer, comforter, et al. are employed then maybe -2F less
in central Texas.

Younger relatives visiting from Boston will still sweat!
I don't have their ideal sleeping temperatures but much less @ ages 40-something

Drinkers need it cooler
Organ problems require it hotter

PJs cooler
in the buff warmer

Bet you'll get a lot of rhubarb entries ....

70-72 in the summer, 67 in the winter. Ideally always in the 60's but our house is old and not efficient enough to do that in the summer

68 24/7 in the winter for the heater.
73-74 24/7 in the dead heat of summer for cooling.

76-77 to sleep if in summer time. Below 74 and I'm a cold mofo.

Winter time we shoot for 71-72 max.

Odd discrepancy between seasons.

For sleep:
73-75 summer, some nights it needs to be a little cooler than others
65 winter

Wife is always freezing regardless of season, so stat temp is increased from 6am to 9pm, then reverts back to values above.

It appears I'm in the minority here, but I keep it at 72 pretty much year round.

We moved into a two story home for the first time.

It's quite the challenge to get temperatures all perfect, especially if any of the doors are closed.

Normally, if doors are open, we can set the downstairs to 67/68 for heat and have upstairs set to 2-3 F lower. We have a big vaulted open area. The heat easily rises filling upstairs first.

When I did my sleep study at St. Joe's, it was 65 degrees. I love sleeping in cooler temps (wife hates it). Mentioned it to the tech and he said 65 was considered "optimal."

Slept like a rock.
