Tying a board and rail fence into a metal post?

I am replacing a small section of my yard fence that my horses have absolutely destroyed. I am going with a simple 3 rail fence using round 4" posts and 2x6 rails. Standard stuff. Cheap. Easy to repair. One end of this fence is going to terminate at a drill stem post/gate that already exists. I do not wish to drill into the metal post to have my rails attach. The rails will end up on the center line of that gate post, whereas on teh wood posts, they will attach to the outside. I am thinking I am going to need to weld up and fabricate some sort of half round pipe/clam shell/bracket thing to attach the rails to the metal post, look decent, and not have and sharp edges.

Before I do that, is there such a bracket in existence already?

I'd much rather buy a mobile welding rig if someone had one in good shape for sale, but I may need a slightly bigger project to justify it than 51 feet of fence.

Why not just get one of these in the right size and bend both wings straight? It's even designed for those wings to be bent. Won't be especially good-looking, but it should hold.

I'd like to get that, I'm not sure it's going to fit around the pipe, but, I suppose I could measure and figure that out. Lol.

I like these style (Link), I think the lip is better for supporting the runners, but they only run up to 3" posts.

If you really have a 4" post, I bet you'll have a hard time finding a commercial bracket that'll fit the post. Might be worth a call to your local fencing supplier. I've found that the local suppliers have better product selection than online for fencing for whatever reason.

ETA - I didn't catch the top down view. Not sure this is the right product, though I'm sure you could modify it to work.

What if you drilled a hole in the wood? I can't think of what it's called right now, but you could place a metal "ring" the thickness of the wood in that hole, and run whatever wire/cable you want through it to tie it off.

Muffler Clamp?

Don't use the bracket that comes with it. You could either use fender washers or a straight metal bracket on the picket. You can trim the threaded portion off after you install them.

Tough one that Simpson & Fence supply outlets don't directly address
Maybe a pair of these, one on each side of post?

The metal pipe OD is actually 3.5". So, those brackets won't work but all of the posts do provide me with ideas on how to make my own if I can't find something appropriate. I bet my local steel supply has something, or something close enough that I can modify. I'm not bad with making it, but I'm not so creative with figuring it out so thanks for the links and thoughts.

They make them for that size pipe, as well.
