Smart Thermostats w/ Lennox iComfort?

Our downstairs HVAC is Lennox w/ an iComfort touch thermostat. It's terrible, as some may expect.

The wiring for it is using some i+,i- proprietary pins. I'm semi-handy, so I went into the attic and the mainboard in the air handler has the traditional Rc, Rh, Green, White, etc terminals that can be used.

So all I should need to do is move from the Lennox i+,i- terminal and connect to legacy. My understanding is that when Nest/EcoBee calls for heat or cooling, it may not take advantage of the stage 1 vs stage 2.

How much should I care? Anyone have thoughts?

Which icomfort do you have and what HVAC do you have? I bought a variable system and the icomfort thermostat the guy installed reduced it's capability down to a two stage. I found out within 24 hours of installation after reading the manuals.

His response was that he installed the cheaper thermostat to save me money. Come on man. I just shelled out big cash for a variable system. You think I'm worried about a couple hundred dollar difference on the thermostat?

You're reading my mail!
Another reason "why" is that locals only stock the cheaper stuff b/c they are never stuck with it and very popular = SOP Aggieland

I'll have to check! I just know it was an iComfort system, but didn't really know specifics. The condenser looks huge compared to our upstairs unit.

I have a fully variable system and the "higher end" Icomfort thermostat. I had an Ecobee installed when I had the system replaced. They told me I could not use the aftermarket thermostats with my variable system. It was a couple years ago and I have gotten used to the Icomfort thermostat, even though it is pretty sucky compared to the Ecobee useability.

Lennox XC17-24. It says single stage. I think in the attic the furnace is 2, but I don't particularly care about that I think....
