Adding some landscaping after completion of an outdoor kitchen pavilion. We had Bermuda grass and a flagstone path before. I am proposing removal of the grass and replacing with river rock for the walking paths. Let me know your thoughts.

There will be flagstone pavers on top of the river rock for the walk ways

Something like this.

We did something similar to the above picture but used crushed granite between the flagstone instead. Turned out nice.

Maybe look for a real light colored stone to match your cream limestone. Looks like a great idea.

+1 on turf, but the stones will look fine.

Down side to turf is cleaning it and getting hot, downside to stones is leaves and debris like to hang out plus eventual weeds.

I would do limestone stepping pads in synthetic turf. Match your other masonry.

Couldn't advise more against river rock. Soon you will have weeds growing through the rocks and you will then constantly be spraying ground clear to get rid of it.

Plus someone mentioned before you will eventually have leaves and twigs get stuck between the rocks and it looks bad quickly.

That whole area looks like its just going to be 'dead' space. I would just have a 3 foot walk around edge to get from the back patio to the pool lounge chairs, put a tight line of trees up against the fence and put real grass/fake grass or any play surface. Seems that area will be prime for putting a nice table and chairs without cluttering up your patio for game watching.
