I agree with all the above!
Been in your shoes ... was it scratch faced Aggie Maroon brick? Mmmmm - that was impossible after a decade passed.
Akin to what your friend did with a siding "accent" most will change materials and accent that space.
I easily guess they are not impressed with this siding & color curb appeal with no attempt to harmonize with that old brick that used to be SOP.
Any new material now must find some other spots within view to exhibit itself and thus become part of the entire composition, not just a odd spot = look at me distraction ... well, as we were taught by the high-IQ designers.
I see to the left a #7 on what appears to be same siding as under windows, so that's a good start to leave it be.
On the left is a more robust wood fence texture/color that could be employed under windows for better effect.
That said,
SOP has been to use a stone or cult.stone that harmonizes with brick, then find at least one other spot for it (behind the #7?). This is what I would do.
Lacking good stone choices, then a harmonizing brick and it could be laid in one of the many standard patterns that differ from your running bond ... even a herringbone pattern. Google brick patterns.
