I just finished a backyard and deck remodel. I had the electrician put in an outlet for a TV. The spot I want is under an overhang and will never receive any sunlight nor any rain/snow. Is it okay to put a regular TV in this spot as long as I have it covered. I've seen some nice all enclosures that seem like this would work. Just trying to see what others have done. TIA.

I have had a regular TV outside under an overhang with no direct rain or sunlight for over 3 years and it still works fine. Outdoor TVs are crazy expensive and not very good. Buy yourself a cheap regular TV and just plan to replace it every 3-5 years and you'll come out way ahead.

Buy a new tv for inside the house and move the old one outside. Also, buy a removable cover for the outdoor tv.

Look at TCL 6 series. It's affordable, and has the brightness capable of being visible in the middle of the day. I have the same setup as you and mine has been running just fine

Find something on sale and cheap in the size you want and go for it. Have a 350 dollar 55 inch Samsung from Costco on The patio going on 3 years old. No issues. Rarely remember to cover it. When it dies, I'll grab another cheapo.

Agree on the TCL Roku series 6. You can replace them several times without spending what you would on an "outdoor" tv. Highly recommend a Roku TV so you don't have to worry about plugs beyond power (though I guess other smart tvs can do this too).

We've had one on our porch for over a year now, with a canvas cover I only put on during super heavy storms, and it's been fine.

I have both a TCL and Hiscense Roku TV on my patio. Love them. Agree with everything here.

Exactly what I've been doing for 5 years now and 0 issues. Make sure you do have a good WiFi connection outside.

Best Buy has some good sales this weekend on TVs.

I would cover it 100% of the time while not using it. I had one in the past that somehow got a small crack that eventually spread across the entire TV. The TV is in a location where it could not have been from something shot from the lawn mower or other outdoor equipment. My only guess is a bird or large bug flew into it.

Going on year 5 with a Roku tv outside on a covered patio. I do have a cover for it and I will say make sure it is completely sealed…discovered a birds nest in mine at one point.

Agree with everyone here. I purchased a Hisense 65' LED TV and keep it outside. So far, no issues. I keep a tv cover on it when not in use to keep out dust/bugs. I did the math and i could purcase like 5-6 indoor tvs for the price of 1 outdoor tv. It's a no brainer.

I used an indoor tv outside under the roof over hang for years with no issues. I bought a canvas cover on amazon for when it was not in use. Worked like a charm.

Mrs FincAg has me building one of these for our wall mount outside.

You'll figure this out very soon. My TV is in a gazebo across the back yard (~ 100 feet) from my house. I put a WiFi extender in the window closest/pointing toward the gazebo.

Ditto. Cheap "indoor" television under my covered patio. No issues for a couple of years now.

I've got a 20-dollar extender from Amazon plugged in just outside the house that helps run another TV on a patio area ~150ish feet from the back door.

Power line adapters are a good alternative to wireless repeaters for high bandwidth applications like streaming on TVs.

What kind of circuit wiring issues do you have that caused issued with an adapter? Different legs of the panel? That's an easy swap. 5 minute job.

Subpanels are the big issue. I have separate subpanels for my shop and outdoor patio, both hanging off the main panel. All the house circuits are off a subpanel in the garage, so the signal would have to travel from subpanel->panel->subpanel and not degrade too much (hint - it does).

Biggest issue I have had is with brightness. My tv sits under an outdoor roof but struggle to get the brightness on the tv sufficient to offset the glare. Any suggestions on TVs that can handle the glare?

FFS, if this man knows it will never receive sun or rain, skip the cover.

lol easy tiger, it's just a cover. You can get one super cheap. And even if it's out of the sun/rain, it can still get dust and bugs. My patio gets absolutely covered in pollen every spring I have to basically hose everything down. The tv cover is pretty clutch for me for that reason if nothing else.
