It's been asked here before I know, but what are some good water softeners out there? Got a quote from Culligan for 4700 to 6700 depending on the unit. Blah. Leaning towards DIY or plumber install.

New house already plumbed to accept a unit. 2 adults and 3 younger children, 4k sq foot.

Culligan has been hard to beat locally in this "soft water" area of College Station so all I got is Consumer Reports pro-subscription. Let me know via email is you need a PDF of it b/c this link won't work.
