Wow!! I am trying to purchase a battery for a rechargeable leaf blower and it is not much less than the cost of a new leaf blower with batter/charger. What's up with that? My blower is a Husqvarna and I recall paying around $240 for it. Now a replacement battery is almost $200. Crazy. I may just have to throw my leaf blower away and get a gas powered one that my neighbors will hate. Does anyone know a source to purchase replacement batteries for home yard tools?

Sometimes you can find compatable knockoff batteries for a much cheaper price on Amazon... I did this with my Dewalt cordless drill.

It's probably not a knockoff anyway... they just didn't put the "Dewalt" label on the battery & sold it under another name. Not like China cares about patents or intellectual property.

Project Farm tested them out. The generic batteries were generally much worse than OEM

A generic online replacement may not be that bad of an option. Find something with a lot of reviews. You might also try reaching out to a place like Batteries Plus and see if they either have a replacement or rebuild the pack. We used to have them to rebuild battery packs for work. On average they were about half of what a new pack would cost with a few exceptions.

I do feel you pain. As everything has been going electric, I have been considering buying my own spot welder kit and repairing all of my own battery packs.

Battery + can replace just the bad cells, but it is usually about 1/2 cost of a new.

I believe there are some utube videos on DIY, if inclined.

I got a black & decker off-brand replacement from amazon once and it has worked well for me (dsanke). for dewalt stuff I just wait for a deal on a tool I want that includes a battery and buy that. or occasionally I'll find a deal on dewalt batteries.

Yeah, I've got EGO stuff for my yard tools and one of my batteries is shot I think. Trying to just buy a new battery that is so close in price to a whole new tool is tough.

I was at Lowes a few weeks ago and they had battery chain saws (display models) for $20 each. I bought 2 -- an Ego and a Skil. I figured I could sell both for at least a small profit, or I would find a battery for one or the other and keep it. I sold the Ego for $75 and I can't seem to give the Skil away. Fixin' to put it on the street. Oh, well. Still $35 ahead for minimal effort.

But yeah, you don't buy the tool brand, you buy the battery. Then you're married to that battery brand!

Their support/warranty is pretty solid if you are the original buyer. I had a battery that would only last a couple minutes off a full charge and they replaced it. I had it maybe a year at that time.

Hmm. Thanks. I will need to look into this. Would I have had to register them when I bought them? I have always made sure to register my Ridgid tools and batteries because their warranty is so good but I'm not sure it occurred to me to register my EGO stuff when I bought it for some reason.

I don't think Batteries + do any lipo packs. Looks like the ego is just a bunch of 18650's and some people have solutions to common BMS failures

I have 3 EGO products and 3 batteries. (It doesn't make financial sense to buy the tool only so I buy the entire unit with battery and charger.) Batteries have a 3 year warranty. If you are within that timeframe I'd definitely call.

It gets a lot of hate here, but the Ryobi line has served me well. They have a wide range of devices, so when you have to replace a battery, you cannot price it against one particular tool. They have a leaf blower and weed whacker in their lineup.

Just go ahead and bite the bullet. You need to purchase a Stihl backpack blower for about $400. Trust me, it is worth EVERY PENNY and it will last you forever. I've had mine for 5 years and have never had any problems with it.

It's the same thing for handheld tools. My Makita batteries were going bad, so I checked it out. I could either buy one battery for $150, or a drill/impact driver combo with two batteries for $175. I don't understand it at all.

Get replacement batts on Amazon. I bought a hi capacity random brand for my Ryobi set and its been rocking a rolling foe a couple years now. No way would i buy a new brand name battery.

Anyone here had a battery shop rebuild them (ie Battery Joe, Batteries+, etc.)? I think that used to be a pretty decent option, but not sure anymore.

I kinda wish someone had told me about a dozen years ago to just stay with 1 eco-system of battery powered tools instead of just going with the cheapest or best deal on day I happened to purchase.

They probably did tell me but I probably chose to save $7 each time so now I have about 5 different brands of batteries and chargers.

Not sure what their warranty is but I have a 60V DeWalt blower and I randomly called DeWalt due to the battery sucking ass and not taking a charge. They are sending me a brand new 60V 9ah battery at no cost. That's like a $200 battery.

All of my tools are DeWalt as I believe they stand behind their product.

Create a keyword for your tool brand on Slickdeals. Every now and then, they'll post a hacker deal. I got two 5Ah batteries and double charger for free for the price of a new oscillating tool.
