Our current septic system is about 18 years old. We have an Asperator style setup that goes out to sprinkler heads. A buzzer box next to the main septic box has been buzzing so we had our septic maintenance company come out. They said our Asperator is no longer working and to replace that we are looking for around $1000, however if I wanted to switch it to an Aerator style it would be $800.

Anyone know the pros or cons of each style system?

To be completely honest I have no clue. I do not know anything about septic systems but this is what they told me.

I worked in the business as a tech for a couple of years. Never heard of an aspirator. There are different forms of aerators though. Main thing is you have something to put oxygen in the water to keep it "aerobic". A few years ago, we would install a new air compressor/pump for around $600. So the $800 doesn't sound too far off with current crazy market. Don't wait too long, you bacteria will die and create a not so good smell when it goes anaerobic. Air vane pumps seemed to last longer but were more expensive and also noisier. Diaphragm pumps were much quieter and if you kept the air "stone" diffuser replaced, it would last almost as long.
