I have a house that was built in 1960 and is extremely drafty.

Has anyone had a company come and drill holes in between the studs in the wall and blow in insulation?

I have heard good things.

Anyone have a company they recommend?

How does this work with existing fiberglass? Wouldn't that get in the way?

I think you just pack it in with it. The fiberglass wouldn't be completely stuffed in.

I used to sell this stuff for a company in the DFW area. You need the cavity to be completely empty. If there is batt insulation inside at all it won't work. They usually drill a hole in the wall at the top of each stud cavity then pump the cellulose down the wall. Sometimes it requires a hole in the bottom as well because you may have a 2x4 somewhere in the middle.

The cellulose works great as an insulator and also for reducing outside sound through the walls. It's a bit messy and you will have to fix each hole when they're done. If I remember right the holes are probably 3-3.5" diameter.

Indeed I do remember that process was popular in the day.

The solutions today are akin to what "The Money Pit" radio guys suggest on the radio.
> Call Weatherford Doors/Windows to see what they might do to drafty seals.
> Next time you have electrical repairs, ask that pro what he can do to seal around outlet/switches.
> Those big box stores that sell blown insulation also rent blowers for attics any may suggest installers.
> Most seems to prefer to add sheet insulation to either side of walls for extra R-value, then seal/caulk/foam for potential draft spots
