I want a make your neighbors jealous green lawn (st. Augustine) later this year. What should I be doing now, to make that happen?
I do have some crap grass in spots that has started to pop up. Too early in the year to weed&feed?

Google Randy Lemmon Schedule. Start now, this week.

Start last year to have a nice lawn this year. Kidding but not kidding.

Nitro-Phos Sweet Green Organic Lawn & Plant Food 11-0-4 now and then start Randy Lemmons schedule.

Use the above if you need the grass greener at any point in time.

I use that schedule but do things 2 weeks earlier in the spring and 2 weeks later in the fall. I'm 60 miles south of San Antone. Works good for me.

Can you apply the preemergence herbicide and the 15-5-10 at the same time?

Anybody care to recommend a good shade tolerant grass for DFW?

Can you plant St Augustine sod in a checkerboard pattern to reduce sod costs? Idea is that eventually it will grow out to fill the empty voids in the checkerboard.

You can but you have to put fill dirt in the unsodded areas or your yard will be really uneven. Also your wife will hate you every time the dog or kids track in mud/dirt inside from the unsodded areas.

I had a back yard that that backs up to a creek and it would have cost over $2K to sod, but I was in no hurry and not willing to spend that amount of money for sod. What I did was use my tiller attachment to till 3 trenches about 6' apart the length of the area. I then used edging clippings from my yard as well as my neighbors yards and buried them in the trenches and covered them up and watered daily for a couple of weeks to get the sprigs established. Later that summer, I tilled 5 more trenches between and outside the existing ones and did the same. Worked out great and repeated the process the following summer. The following year, the area was fully covered with a nice San Augustine stand,

I admire the dedication to save money. I don't know if my wife will have as much patience as you
