My dishwasher keeps throwing the breaker whenever I open or close the door. Ideas?

When it runs it's does fine though. It seems like every time we open it or close it I have to go turn the thrown breaker back on. Any electrician or appliance background know what's causing this?

Any chance it's plugged into a gfi under the sink?

Is it hardwired or plugged in?

Plugged in behind dishwasher. Earlier out of nowhere the junction box sparked tripping it again. It was turned on sitting there but not running or anything. The only other appliance running was the washing machine.

Info vague. Guessing a loose connection somewhere.

It sparked? Can you expound? Which junction box, etc.

Front cover box to the right. Almost right by the front door hidge. Quick flash coming out of box. Saw it from the corner of my eye as it was sitting there not even running.

Oh! If I'm understanding you correctly, you're talking about a part of the dishwasher, not the electrical box behind it in the wall. It sounds like the cable that works through the door has worn through its insulation and is causing a short. That would make sense why you would trip your breaker when you open or close the door (which jostles the cable), and not when you run the machine.

By the way, unplug the machine as soon as you can or leave the breaker open. Don't let the thought of "it hasn't started a fire so far" sway you from making the safe call. That's called risk creep. Exposed wiring is no joke, even at 120V.

If it's hardwired into the wall, you should have a light switch near the sink to cut power to it.

Turn the power off and inspect the junction box on front of the dishwasher and where the cord enters this box. Make sure there is a penetration grommet like this

protecting the wire were it goes through the metal junction box hole and that the wire is not missing insulation and arcing from that. Check all the connections at the cord to the dishwasher wires inside the junction box and make sure they are good and all wire nuts are wrapped in electrical tape.
