I'm the process of building a new patio cover that will include an outdoor fireplace as well as a built in gas grill.

I need to select a grill - probably 36-42 inch.

I'm just starting to look at brands

Do any of you have a brand you recommend or one you do not ? Need to narrow this down.

Good friend has a DCS mad it seems to be well built, but looking for all options.

I used Coyote for a built in pellet smoker. They make built in grills as well. I mention them because I received EXCELLENT customer service from them.

I purchased during covid through an eBay store that was out of California. I got it for about $500 less this way. I ended up getting it delivered about 6 mon early. Then finally got it installed by my contractor. About 1-2 months after install I had a problem with the ignition. I called them, really just looking for some feedback on how to fix it . I was prepared for some sort of "well, you didn't even buy it from us and the purchase date was 9 months ago" sort of response. I was floored with how helpful they were.

They just kept saying they wanted me to be happy with their product. They basically insisted on me getting a new machine. They said the newer model they were making was better and sent it out for free.

I will be supporting them from now on

How high end are you looking? We installed a Twin Eagles built in a couple of years ago and that thing is badass.

Any thought to a blackstone that you build around?

Got one for Fathers day and I don't have much of a need for a grill with it and an offset smoker being available

Blackstone doesn't make a drop in. Drop in griddles are expensive and there are only a couple of companies that make them. Evo, blaze and some french sounding one were all I could find. I will review if mine ever gets installed.

I had one once awhile back that had a rotisserie! Thought I wouldn't use it - but it made some of the best chicken ever : P

thanks for responses. Just went to the Texas Star grill shop in 59 @ Shepherd. Nice selection. The Twin Eagle is fine, but might be too much for just the two of us - although I've now had two people highly endorse them.

They had another brand called an Alfresco that has an amazing number of options but again I'm probably going to be doing more of simple - burgers, steak, brats, chicken grilling. Not sure I would use the rotisserie, but it does come standard on the DCS I was looking at. I guess I could make a ton of pastor tacos on that which would be awesome.

We bought the American Renaissance Grill a few months ago from Texas Star Grill Shop and I really like it. We were back and forth between that and the Delta Heat but the ARG is a Texas based company and the doors/side burner etc were a lot cheaper from ARG

I had a 42" DCS and it was great at first. Then it started to rust (the burners and ceramic rod holders) and the ceramic rod would fall off and break. Replacing all the parts was more expensive then a Primo XL so I pulled it and the Primo sits in it's spot now. Lasted about 5 yrs.

I just bought a Fire Magic 790i but still waiting to get it hooked up. The thing looks freaking badass and feels well made. I'll post a review once I get it up and running.

My dad has an RCS and I've used it a couple times for burgers/corn/brats. No complaints on my end. Seems like a really good option if you're looking to keep costs down.

Have a Blaze and been quite happy with it!

I have a Blaze and I don't really love it. Flames up pretty bad with fatty meats (burgers, steaks, etc.). My buddy has an RCS with the briquettes in the bottom and I like cooking on it more than mine. FWIW.

Yeah - I'm glad it's not just me. It's also not very good at lower temps. It gets hot as hell though.

Blaze is a shallow body grill so it's going to be a lot more susceptible to flare ups in the traditional model. The pro is a little better. Best management for that is to cook more indirectly or lower the temp more. The rcs rjc is the exact same grill but with briquettes as you mentioned. May be slightly better with flare ups but you have the added cost and maintenance of briquettes which will wear out faster compared to a ss heat deflector.

Most American made grills are deeper body - 11.5-12" tall which really helps with flare up and heat management. Of course there's a price difference which some customers don't or can't justify. Firemagic, twin eagles, Hestan, Lynx, and now the ARG by rcs all fall into this category.

If you can swing it, Hestan has a maroon color available or at least they did.

Yep they do. Hestan is a really sweet product. Lots of engineering and ingenuity went into their unit. The colors are cool too.

Enjoy.

I have a Lion 32" (36"?) - great deal and comes with accessories for free.

Looking at outdoor grills also. Hestan looks nice. Might be a little out of budget.

Anyone have an Alfresco? At first look like the built-in rotisserie mechanism compared to hanging device off the side.

Definitely go twin eagles over alfresco. Built in rotiss as well.

Happy to provide a quote but they are currently 16-20 weeks out.

Check out Saber gas grills. Grease is vaporized eliminating flare-ups.

We went with Lynx grill primarily because they will all have issues at some point in time and they are local to us...

If I did it again I would go on CL or OfferUp and find the best new grill at the lowest price, hope I get 5 years and be done w/ it.

Almost done with our patio! Electrical and gas plumbing all hooked up and inspected. Just waiting on a few touch ups and cleaning.

Still can't wait to fire this puppy up and see what it can do. I'm traveling out of town this weekend (of course) so my virgin Fire Magic voyage will have to wait.

(Pardon the dust. I'm going to meticulously clean the **** out of the appliances once all these contractors leave my property)
