Condensation on AC Vents

I'm getting a lot of condensation of the AC registers in my downstairs - like dripping down condensation.

Doesn't seem to be happening in my upstairs area (separate unit) or on the couple of vents in a vaulted ceiling on the downstairs unit.

Is this just bad duct-work at the vent and a hot/cold air situation or should I be looking at the performance of my unit?

Make sure your filters are clean. Low velocity and cold air will make the vents sweat. It could be duct design or equipment issues (slow blower, dirty coil, low on Freon, bad txv) but it could also be a dirty filter. Also, make sure the damper in the grill is fully open.

I'm getting the same thing on a vent in my upstairs bathroom. It happens to be the shortest duct run in the house and I thought I read somewhere that that could cause the condensation problem as it is likely the coldest air.

This is typically a result of high humidity in the house or that little zone around the register. Your attic is going to be humid and they don't usually seal those little registers around the drywall so any I'll fit will allow enough attic air around that vent that is moist and then condenses on the cold metal.

Pull the covers off and try caulking the register box.

Especially if they are the older non insulated metal ones

What do y'all think of using plastic vents? Other than looking bad is this a bad remedy? It only applies to one vent for me.
