Hey all - I am looking into installing an under the sink reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink. The system I want requires electricity. The issue is that while I do have an outlet under my kitchen sink, it is taken up by the dishwasher and the garbage disposal. What are my options? Do I need a new outlet? Or is there a way to safely add more capacity via an outlet adapter of some sort?

Is it safe? Dishwasher, RO system, and garbage disposal would go to it.

I'm assuming you have a single duplex outlet and since you have a dishwasher and a disposal I'm assuming you have two switches on your counter somewhere. I don't have a dishwasher switch so if you don't then that's fine too. Anyway, if that's the case, then they split your two outlets to work with each switch.

There is no reason you can't plug that outlet thing in there and do what you want. That RO is not going to pull enough power to amount to a hill of beans.

You just need to put it on the correct half of the outlet and you'll have power all the time whether your dishwasher is switched or not.

Thank you, that's correct. I have two switches. One controls the disposal and the other one controls the dishwasher. Seems like an easy fix then. Initially I was concerned about doing that but makes sense

I have had this system for almost 7 years and have been impressed with it. No electrical needed, runs of permeate pump.

Thanks for sharing, I think I'll look at the one you provided.

I'd also suggest a non electrical one. OP didn't ask so I didn't offer but this one looks good. I had a WATTS at my old house and it was great. Never gave me any trouble.

Anyone know what the electrics part would be for if
You had it? UV? Forced filtration to speed up the process?

I think you're right that the power for the RO is for forced filtration so it's more of an on-demand type use versus the holding tank. I just installed the Waterdrop RO system and I've been very happy it.

I wanted to do this so it didn't take up as much space under the sink (although it still takes up some). A neat perk with the powered unit is that the RO faucet has an LED ring at the base that lights up when you turn it on. It will flash different colors when one of the three different filters need to replaced.

Some have pumps that reduce the amount of waste brine that comes out. I think a typical one may make several gallons of waste per gallon of filtered water and the pump can cut that waste down by a couple gallons.
