I could really use some help to get my fireplace lit without power. It's a heat and glo unit with an intermittent pilot ignition (IPI) igniter with no manual igniter switch. I've put two D cell batteries in the battery pack under the fireplace and confirmed the batteries are good. Go to flip the switch on the fireplace and no ignition. I think it's because the fireplace switch is on a three way switch. During normal operation I have to flip a switch on my living room wall, then flip the switch on the side of the fireplace. Is that why the battery pack is not working to start the fire, because the circuit isn't closing with the three way switch? Power came on last night and the fireplace started up without issue, but when power went back off this morning the fire cut out. I'm at a loss and really need to get the fire working to at least heat up part of the house.

When you flip the switch from remote to on, do you hear the clicking of the ignition?

Let me clarify that...my fireplace is controlled by remote, but I think even some with wall switches have this. There may be another box under logs, near where the battery pack is. There is a switch on the box. My switch says "off", "remote", and "on". I had to switch it from "remote" to "on" to get my battery back up to work.

There was no clicking when I flipped the switch and no other box under the fireplace. That said, I just went under to look for another box, threw the batteries in and flipped the switch just to see if I could hear clicking, and it FIRED RIGHT UP! I have no idea what changed from yesterday other than the power cutting out while the fireplace was working. Maybe that kept the circuit closed?!

Oh, great! Most of my neighbors and I have the same fireplace. I've helped with 3-4 of them besides my own. I have noticed that the starter can be a little finicky. One neighbor, we just had to keep flipping the switch between remote and on. It should stay on now, even if your power goes out again.

If you don't have that second box, that wall switch has got to be wired to the battery pack, too. Because I think it's effectively doing the same thing. Toggling it probably helped.
