Helping a buddy hang patio lights in his yard, the string lights like you see everywhere now a days.

He needs to connect 2 pieces on the support cable together, as what he bought wasn't long enough. What's the best way?

Obviously the goal is to make sure the two ends don't Separate. Would wire clamps work like shown in the amazon link below?

That should work. If this is a temporary setup, you might want to use loops on both sides and connect with a caribeaner or similar. One long piece with a weird connection in the middle is not as helpful in the future as two pieces with loop ends. You can get those connections at blue or orange and just decide how you want to do it.

Cable clamps. Put 2 per connections for safety but these hold like no tomorrow. Had them holding my 350lb feeder in the air on steel cable from 2 trees at my deer lease. Removable and reusable too.
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth!

Crimps are the way to go, but you need a crimper.

And if you use saddle clamps make sure you do NOT saddle the dead end (Google it)

The Ferrules and stops are a stronger connection, and a cleaner look as well. But you need to properly crimp them using the right tool. Don't just smash them together.

I'd put loops on both ends like another poster suggested. It won't look bad and I think will be much stronger.

So we currently had it rigged with some cable clamps just for measuring length purposes....looks like it might just stay that way

Thanks for the input everyone

Why not just go to home depot and buy the right length cable? Gotta think it would look nicer?
