Some of my gas powered equipment is starting to crap out and I am considering switch due to the potential for lighter equipment, less maintenance, not having to deal with mixing gas, etc... but curious if it is really a good/better long term option as the ads make it seem.

Anyone switched from gas powered?
If so, what do you think and do you have any brand, volt, etc... recommendations?

Some info here. https://texags.com/forums/61/topics/3118502/replies/56757709

My main problem with our battery mower is that it's not powerful enough to pick up leaves from our Texas Live Oak trees. It's fine for cutting our St. Augustine lawn (admittedly small). But, with so many trees on our property, I must use gasoline blower all over the property to get the leaves picked up.

I was a skeptic. I have a .75 acre lot in Dallas with 5 live oaks. I had a neighbor swear by Ego brand. I started with their blower - I was very impressed. Then I got the auto-feeding string trimmer - very impressed. Then I got the mower - very impressed. It is better than my Troy Bilt mower. I am pleased

Have switched everything except the lawnmower to Makita battery powered.

Great system and much easier to use. When my gas mower finally dies, we will likely switch it to electric.

My immediate need is a blower but I am trying to figure things out because if/when I go the battery route I wanna stay brand consistent and ideally get tools with the same size batteries so they can be interchanged. I could eventually be replacing a weedeater, edger & mower. I can edge with a weedeater if needed but I kinda like have a separate edger.

I have a 1/3 acre corner lot with a good bit of sidewalk/driveway and a 2 story house that has a relatively small footprint. 3 oaks (one is small) in the front yard and a few fruit trees along the fence line in the back. My biggest issues are very thick St Augustine (had to buy a rear wheel drive mower when I moved in) and seasonal catkins from the oaks. Other than that the yard really isn't bad just time consuming.

Makita PowerHead

Makita Edger

Makita Blower

All use the same batteries. I made the mistake of buying the Makita weedeater separately but, if I had to do it again, I would buy the weed eater PowerHead attachment instead.

My lawn crew, made up of my teenage sons, prefer these to the old gas powered weedeater and electric edger and blower. No cords to wrap and the batteries are interchangeable.

TLDR. Great trimmers and blowers. Select Cut line of mowers better than standard, but still behind high level gas mowers. If I had to do it again, would still go all electric for the joy of not messing with two gas cans and the quietness of the mower.

I've had full Ego line for about a year and a half. Mower, blower, strong trimmer , and hedge trimmer. Blower, string trimmer, and hedge trimmer are great. Definitely recommend. Mower I have mixed emotions.

I got the LM2100sp mower. Main complaint, as another poster mentioned, is that it doesn't have the power to suck up live oak leaves well. Cuts the grass well most of the time. I have really thick st Augustine and do have to slow down significantly if I wait too long between mows. That's more on me putting off yard work than the mower itself.

A few weeks ago, I upgraded to one of their new "select cut" mowers. LM2130. Supposedly more powerful than the 2100, but the big change is that is has two blades like most of the nicer gas mowers. I've only used it a handful of times and so far it is definitely better than the 2100. Handles thick grass really well. If I did it all over again I'd skip the standard line and go straight to the Select Cut.

My neighbors Honda is still better, but I don't have to deal with gas and I can mow as early or as late as I want without worrying about waking up the kid or being "that guy" firing up the mower at 7am.

As an aside, I saw an article recently that Home Depot was phasing out Ego products. Not sure of the validity, but if it is true that would leave Ace Hardware as the only retailer (assuming they don't add more or go direct to consumer).

I have Makita cordless tools and am switching to the Makita line of outdoor tools slowly. I have the 18v blower and it will compete with a gas blower. I have plenty of batteries from all of my other tools so switching them out if it dies is no big deal. My next purchase will be the string trimmer and then the mower. They just came out with a commercial line of mowers with 4 batteries and a metal deck. Maybe my gas mower will crap out next year and the Makita will come down in price.

The great thing about the battery powered tools is getting yard work done in the evening. The mower has lights and the tools are quieter than gas.

We have an ego blower for our warehouse. I was highly skeptical. But it works great. Don't have to mess with oil/gas mixture and fires up with a push of a button.

I used a Black&Decker cordless electric mower for 20 years. Now have EGO mower, trimmer and edger. Recommend them.

I recently picked up the EGO 530 cfm blower to replace a Stihl gas blower that was on its last leg. I like it. Is it as strong as the Stihl (bg 65)? No, probably not... however, it is plenty strong to do what I need to do, and the ease of use is well worth it. I blow off the leaves on the driveway almost everyday, blow off everything once a week after I mow and the battery will last a couple weeks.

I'll probably pick up a string trimmer when my gas one starts having issues.

Idk about the mower yet... Neighbor has an ego mower (not sure which one), but it leaves a lot of uncut blades on his St Augustine.

I have an Ego string trimmer, pole saw, and mower. All of them are awesome.

Highly recommend.

Same as aggiedent and got the edger/weed eater multi-head. All are awesome. I'm sure I didn't optimize the purchase when doing the multi-head, mower And blower but I've got three batteries and the quick charger. I went with the 2142 mower as it holds two batteries. Only complaint is that the Single blade will miss grass blades.

I bought the Toro recycler lawnmower. I've been very happy with it.

I've had the Lowes Kobalt 40-volt Max Brushless Lithium Ion Push mower for 2 years now, as well as the weedeater. I have an average size yard, and unless I let the St. Augustine get really high (5 inches) or so, I can still do both front and back yard on 1 charge.

I love my ego mower, but we have 3/4 acre with large oak trees and we can't do the entire lawn on one charge. We don't have other tools yet...

I've had the Ryobi 40V equipment for a couple of years now (string trimmer, blower, edger, and pole saw). I've been pretty happy with them, and they are plenty powerful. I originally bought the Expand-It with a single power head and each of the above is a separate attachment. I had some issues with the clamp that holds the attachments in place (bad design on the clamp in my opinion), and a few months ago Ryobi sent me a replacement power head, with an updated design (along with a second battery and charger, all covered under warranty). Aside from that one problem, the actual equipment has been great!

Ryobi has a bad name but we've been happy with them. 40v battery crapped out but I brought the whole mower back to Home Depot and got a newer better one (6ah instead of 5) on warranty.

Only issue is this weekend we are moving from .2 acres to .8 acres

Between this thread, the linked one and several Google searches I'm leaning towards Ego. They are the only ones that seem to consistently show up at the top of all the best of lists for all products (mower, trimmer & blower).

I 've got the Ego blower, string trimmer, and hedge trimmer and I'm very happy with all of them. Didn't buy the mower as i have a riding one, though apparently Ego is coming out with one of those as well.

Lowe's apparently picked them up and will start selling them this fall.

I have the Ego self propelled mower and it works well. I have Dewalt power tools so I got their string trimmer and I like it too. Light weight but spins dual line well and gets its done.
Still rocking my Stihl Gas blower from 12 years ago, it may never die.

I use Kobalt and now Greenworks since you can very easily modify the battery housing of the same size (80v for example) so that they work in both tools. My 80v Kobalt battery now fits in my weed eater and blower from Kobalt and my mower from Greenworks. More companies can be done like this I found out. Being able to mix and match tools and batteries is a game changer.
https://www.smartfamilymoney.com/use-greenworks-batteries-kobalt-tools/

To make the modification all i did was use my Ryobi 18v hand router with a dremel grinder bit, set the height i wanted for max depth and ground out a 1/4" extra space for 1 rail on each side of the battery and it fits perfectly now. Since the terminal connections are shared, all it took was a little plastic modifying.

I have the GreenWorks 60v mower, weed eater, and the edger. To do my suburban 5,000sqft lawn, it takes both a 4 Ah and 2 Ah battery.

The equipment seems to work just as well as any other lawn equipment I have had, with the added bonus of not having to deal with gas, gas/oil mixes, pull strings to start equipment or ear protection. I haven't had the equipment long enough to judge its durability though, but so far I haven't had any issues.

I had switched to a Ryobi but after a few months it kept shutting off. After a couple returns to Home Depot for warranty and still no fix, the store manager finally gave me my money back. It had a switch problem, one which they were aware of. Went back to a mower with a Briggs & Straton and have no issues. Did buy a DeWalt string trimmer after my corded one finally died and I am more than absolutely happy with the DeWalt. It uses the same battery line as my drill and driver. Just saw the other day that DeWalt has come out with a mower, but not switching again until the gas lawnmower dies.

In 2008 I bought a Neuton battery powered mower along w/an edger attachment and extra battery.

The 2 batteries were enough to mow/edge my front and backyard at the time, which was approximately 7500sqft lot size.

The edger was the game changer - mounted to the front of the mower and could be rotated from a vertical string to parallel w/the ground and all angles in between.

My only issue w/the mower was it was not powerful enough to stand up grass that was slightly damp that had been flattened from the wheels rolling over. I'd need to go back and hit a lot of spots in the yard some days.

It sounds like battery powered mowers have come a very long way. The only other game in town then were plug in mowers. No idea what Neuton's quality is now and it looks like they no longer offer the mower mounted trimmer accessory.
Staff - take out the trash.
