I probably deserve some flack for being a bad/unobservant homeowner, but I recently noticed that several lintels were rusted along our entryway and the backdoor of our home (pictures in link below). Some of these look pretty bad to me, but I am not handy nor an engineer/construction guy so I wanted to get a general opinion from people more knowledgeable than me.

Is there a chance any/all of these can be repaired (e.g., remove rust, rustproof, paint)? Or has my lack of prevention now cost me several thousands to replace? This is a three story townhouse so there is a decent load above these areas; however, there are not currently any cracks in the surrounding brickwork that I can see. If more info or better pictures are needed, I can certainly provide that. I greatly appreciate your thoughts!

Here is how I handle rusted lintels

Scrap loose rust
Go to McCoys or Sherwin Williams and purchase GEM or OSPHO
Apply GEM/OSPHO rust killer with a throw away brush
Let it dry over night and the rust will turn black

Apply a coat of this on them and let dry

Apply 2 coats of your choice of finish paint.
