Seriously thinking about having some of the windows in my house done. I've wanted them since I bought my very first house, and I'm on #3.

Anyone have a ball-park price per window they can share? I'm looking at doing a normal-sized window with two side lights in the front, a double and a single window in the living room, a double and a triple in the dining room, and another single with two side lights in the master.

Are we talking 4 figures or 5?

I'm in the Houston burbs.

Houston Burbs here too. When we moved into our home in 2013, there were only 2 windows that did not have plantation shutters. One regular sized bedroom window and one small bathroom window. Was ~$740 for both.

I am guessing you should be able to get a better deal since you are doing your whole home.

We did 12 windows for about 300 a piece before tax. We used Houston Wholesale Blinds, and had an excellent experience. We did the larger 4" slays per the reps advice, and very happy. They were the most affordable we found and not all had 4" options. They also offered to custom split at our specs to allow the top and bottom to function independently. This allows the top to be open for light but allow privacy.

Go for it!

I made a side deal with the guy who does the shutters for the builder I bought my house from. It was roughly $300 installed for each normal sized window. Double that for the over sized windows. We have some small windows high up on a couple walls and those were around $80 I think. Way more expensive than blinds but he said he would beat everyone else's price and he did. I recently added a room to my house (converted media room to bedroom and added an exterior window) and he was going to charge me $500. I balked and he did $300 again. Mainly because I have referred several friends and family who outfitted their entire house. He said prices went up but who knows. It had been several years since my initial order.

I'm in San Antonio and I believe he does Austin too. I'm not sure if he services Houston but I can ask. He owns his own business and his 11 (yes 11) kids are his employees.

Thanks for the replies! I've got a place in Spring that I want to get a quote from, but I'll check with Houston Wholesale, too.

If the SA/Austin guy does Houston jobs, I'll get one from him, too.

I had a friend tell me the quote for her house (~2k sq ft, which is comparable to mine) was something like $10k! I don't want to waste time with a quote if it's that much!

Sure. His name is Stan

Tell him you heard he will beat any prices. Don't expect to get blown away with touchy feely customer service but he is nice enough and his product and price is awesome. His college aged kids do measurements and installs and they are all really nice. I don't get anything for referring anyone but let me know if you get crappy service or he seems to be jacking his rate up. I've indicated before that I won't refer anyone else to him if he doesn't treat them well.

It can easily be 5 figures for your whole house depending what you do.

Well, I know that. But that list of windows in my original post is just about all the windows in my house.

Where it gets expensive in a hurry is if they have goofy shapes like arched tops. Plain old rectangle ones are much cheaper.

Are most of the prices above for painted shutters? We would really like to install them in our whole house, but we're staying with stained. I assume they've got some additional premium for stained.

Mine are painted white. I don't believe my guy charges a different price for the stained.

Yeah, thankfully, I don't have a single arched window in my house.

My wife does plantation shutters and she can get you a quote through her work if you want. We are also in houston burbs.
I just did a rough measure of my windows...how do I get in contact with you for a quote?

I went to a showroom today, and while I have no issue with the polyvinyl shutters, I think some of my windows are too wide for that product and will require wood. The showroom I went to had vinyl and wood products that (supposedly) are the same price, but I may still have to upgrade at least one window due to excess width.

Got it, and will send an email shortly! I'm in The Woodlands. IIRC, you're in the League City area, so it's a hike. But if she still wants to do the quote, I'm WFH for the next two weeks.

We had them done in '13 in Auburn Lakes. I'll dig up the contact information, as we used a local company. He did it with his daughter and did an amazing job. Sure miss those prices as we had it done up here in Colorado last year and it was about twice the price.

Please do! I went to Accent Shutters on 2920 yesterday and sent them some rough measurements.

He did a great job. And you won't have to measure anything. He'll come out for a free quote.

Jim is fast! I sent a message via the website this morning and he called me this afternoon. After talking, I emailed him with my rough measurements, and I had a quote within minutes! It's ballpark what I expected, so definitely reasonable.

Fyi my wife was told not to come to work for 2 weeks as a precaution so idk if that fits your timeline.
I'm not in any hurry. I can email her the window measurements if she wants to do a rough quote. Given the good recommendations I've gotten here, I feel comfortable going with the lowest bid (I wouldn't be shocked if they are all about the same, though).

As far as manufacture and installation, I don't have any expectation this will get done before midAugust. I've lived with the blinds I have for 7+ years; two more weeks wouldn't be an issue.

I believe it was about 4-6 weeks from time of order to installation with Jim. At the time we had three bids and he was the lowest, but may not be that way anymore?
