The handle on my push mower bag broke at the weld. I don't own a welder but am wondering how y'all think the JB Weld expoxy would hold up?

The only issue I can think of is when the weld broke, a piece of the metal went with it so the breaks don't align perfectly on both sides so the JB Weld Epoxy would have to fill in a slight gap.

Unless one of you fine folks have a welder in DFW and could do two welds. I can buy some beer to pay ya.

To buy a new bag and frame is 60 bucks and a new frame is 30 without shipping. Hoping I can try a different route.

Might work. Can you find a neighbor who can weld?

JB Weld is strong stuff, it could do the trick. If it doesn't, you're only out a few bucks. If the impact of another failure was higher I'd reconsider, but the worst case is that your broken mower bag is still broken.

Jb weld will not work for long there.

Go find a hole in the wall welding shop and give them $50 to do it right.

You know he posted a new frame is only $30+shipping...

Drill through both ends and bolt it.

Also, how much stress is on this part. Would a lashing made of ducttape hold up?

If you do want to try epoxy, I would get one of the 2 part form able epoxies. The ones that are more clay like. you would probably get a better fix out of that.

There's a Mexican tire shop by us that has done small welds on our commercial mowers for $25. I have a feeling my foreman gets the Mexican discount

This. It's the easiest and cheapest solution.

If JB Weld can hold a radiator housing together for over 5 years then i think it can handle that lawn mower handle. You may just have to do multiple applications as each "layer" drys to fill in gaps.

Radiator housing isn't under bending moment loads.

JB Weld might buy you some more life, but it's still not going to change the cross section of that failure point. Even if it holds perfectly fine, you'll just eventually crack right there again at another part of the weld's cross section.

If you're going to jury-rig it up with JB Weld, I would recommend also reinforcing that joint with a threaded bolt and more JB Weld on that.

Don't know what kind of tools you have, but between preparing, epoxying, clamping, drilling, bolting, epoxying you could spend more than the $30 new frame.

I've tried JB Weld before and it lasted about five minutes.

Update:

I went to a muffler shop based off of rec from the local Ace hardware and the guy fixed me right up. Was going to do it for free but I gave him some cash for the slight inconvenience.

Thanks for all the replies.
