Heightening a Fence for More Privacy (or should I just plant bamboo?)

Not gonna lie... added bamboo just to get a rise out of folks. Not gonna do that, although the right type of clumping bamboo would probably work.

I have a petty inconvenience of a slight view of commercial building that I'd like to eliminate.

I explored the options of planting evergreen trees, shrubs, or bushes along the fence and training them to be a tree to provide a year round block. I do like that idea, but as you can see, my fence is also in need of repair.

That's when I ran into the idea of extending it upward by adding taller 4x4s inbetween the broken ones. I googled and ran across a few ideas.

So my idea would be to add 4x4s between the broken ones that were about 4 feet taller than the fence. Then add slats between or a lattice between to block the view. Anyone ever done something like this?

I also explored the idea of just putting a cattle panels or hog panels on the 4x4s and planting some type of climbing vine to give a more "natural" looking privacy. (but honestly I think I'd hate this idea in the long run trying to manage some runaway vine).

Anyone ever heightened a fence?

You need to check if there are neighborhood or city restrictions on fence height.

If there aren't any issues, just go to Home Depot and get a board stretcher.

Don't do bamboo. Not native and at some point you will say,

These I like although I still have to cut new culms and the leaves are still a pain.

This one I hate.

Same kind as preceding one but shields from neighbors.

Plant cross vines and it'll cover the entire area and you'll have a non see through privacy throughout the year, and you'll have awesome cross flowers and bees galore in the springtime! Ask me how I know...

Just go burn down the other building. Problem solved and you don't have to do any real work.
