Anyone gone through a repiping of their galvanized fresh water lines in a house? Live in Houston with a home built in the early 1960s. Should have repiped the whole house when we remodeled but got long on budget and decided against it...a mistake.

In an upstairs bathroom starting to see rust colored water when I turn on the kids bath.

Had mine redone with Pex a couple months ago for $4k (all vertical drops included). I hired out the sheetrock repair separately ($5-600ish, dont recall exactly).

1960's build in Memorial.

I used Joe Nettles plumbing. Did most of the horizontal and vertical runs in a 2 story house. Was about $10k.

Who did it if you don't mind me asking? We are Memorial as well.

That's a great price! I was quoted $7-8,000 for our 2.5 bath with washer, kitchen and 4 hose bibs.

Made the decision to do it myself and spent about $500 on materials from an online vendor.

One thing to remember is to call your insurance agent and let them know you no longer have galvanized pipes. Most companies won't even insure a house with old pipes so when you get it done it brings in a lot of other options. My insurance rate was cut in half.

My In laws used Texas Drain Technology. They were very please, they have a process where they coat the inside of the pipes without having to tear out the wall and deal with the sheet rock problems. They are endorsed by Tom Tynan on his home improvement show. Several other friends in the Houston area have used them with no problems and endorse them as they way to go. Their phone number is 713-697-2088. Attached is link with videos of their work.

Ouch, some of y'all s prices make me crings...I paid $1700 for a plumber to do all the horizontals in a 2800sf home. I used GAP plumbing in Kingwood.

I had considered going back in and doing the verticals, but the spans of horizontal galvanized that came out had no pitting, but I did see better water pressure and hot water much faster, due to installing a larger "trunk line across the home from the main water line.

Had ours done after we bought but before we moved in. I think it was about $8K. But we did have them run H/C to garage sink, another C hose bib in garage, H/C for future outdoor kitchen and then sewer line from garage/kitchen and tie it into existing sewer.

If you're going to be punching holes in the wall, might as well add for future use.

1 story 2.5 ba house. 2 story homes cost more.

Sellers paid $3.5k of the cost as negotiation on sale of home.

Had a neighbor use Texas Drain Technology for his galvanized pipes. He was well pleased it was cleaner, quicker and has a great warranty. My understanding this is used all over in industry as well to save time and money. This is the only way to go if you have to repipe a home. Do it once and forget it for life.

I redid all my pipes myself for about $1100. It was a lot of work but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I had this done a few months ago, also in Houston and same vintage/type of house. My price was similar to what others have already posted. I contracted out to a plumber who then subbed out the work. I was amazed they did the whole job on about 6hrs and sheetrock damage was very minimal. I would recommend having it done, and consider changing out old valves etc at the same time. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more details. Good luck.

Wanted to follow up with those on this thread and let you guys know I went with The Repipe Company in Houston. They did a great job for a great price. Added a whole home carbon water filter as well with the job. I highly recommend Carlos and his team.
