Just moved into our new home, looks like one of the subcontractors dropped a hammer or something in the middle of it, dime sized ding/chip in the acrylic. I'm done dealing with these people, rather just pay out of pocket for the fix, and have it done right. Do y'all recommend anyone? I'm near Rockdale, TX, about an hour from Austin, TX, and an hour from College Station, TX.

Do a search here. Just had a thread about this not too long ago. There are kits available for repairing this. Had the same thing on a new tub I had on my remodel. It was repaired and I have honestly no idea where the chip was or is.

Call a local plumbing supply like morrison or coburns, they will more than likely have the number of someone who does repair on tubs

Just had Steve Leavings come by to fix both tubs. Great guy, and did a great job! Our builder said they'd cover the costs since it was their workers who chipped the new tubs.

Why didn't the builder just replace the Tubs?

Depending on the surrounding area, replacing the tub could cascade into a number of other problems to deal with.

Same reason you don't replace a car when you get in a fender bender. Expensive and not necessary.

Replace the tubs? That would be a pretty large project. Plus, we're already moved into the house, couldn't delay any longer due to lease expiring at end of the month. They'd have to order new tubs, which would take about 2-3 weeks to deliver by LTL Freight, pull the old tubs out, install new ones.

The tub repair guy literally took about 45 minutes, and you can't tell it was ever chipped. The fix comes with a lifetime warranty. Builder covered the repair costs, and tub repair guy said they do this all the time on new homes in town. I mean, if it was a major crack, sure, replace the tub, but these were minor chips in the finish.

That makes sense. At the time I initially questioned fix vs replace, my builder hadn't yet informed me it takes about 6 people to carry the tub we're installing.

Also my only refinish experience was my parents having the tub refinished 30+ years ago - it lasted 2 years before it needed to be refinished again.
