So we're on a well in Fort Bend County.

Haven't had any issues since we bought the house in 2015. Well head was not submerged from Harvey, but a lot of standing water was around it obviously. We tested it for pathogens and it came back negative.

The sandy stuff just started showing up recently (last two weeks) noticeable mostly in toliet tank and bathtub after giving the kid a bath, also noticed it in a humidifier. It isn't related to a specific faucet or hot/cold water.

We do have a water softener but I'm not even sure if it works or if water goes through it. I put salt it in periodically, but don't keep up with it.

So I'm kinda just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on things to do besides have a water well company come out and check on the well.

Sounds like your well is silting in. Not sure how high your water table is, but we've been able to shorten the intake line on our well before to bring it up off the bottom and it fixed our problem.

Odds are you are having some subsuface geologic changes and you are getting some sand or sediment in your lines. Happens with ours periodically, generally after a significant weather event (drought to wet or after Harvey we had the same issue).

You can put a filter on your main line to the house and fix the issue relatively easy, just have to check the filter periodically and change it when necessary. A pressure gauge upstream and downstream is an easy way to get a visual on changing requirements.

It's from the water softener.

Is it the resin from the softener? It resembles sand.

Might be time to change the resin out. The company I bought mine from said that although resin life is variable depending on water quality, rule if thumb is to change it once every five years or so. Still doesnt explain why its showing up in your water though. Sounds like it may not be backwashing properly. I would check to make sure the discharge line isnt stopped up first.

From what I saw and read, the membrane has busted and it's mixing with the water.

The unit is 15+ year so old and never wa maintained only had salt added to it.

It's just time for a new unit.
