How long do you want to ignore this user?
Land.arch son says solution to my age-old problem in a couple of spots in lawn = only St. Augustine but I'll need a variety that is VERY drought resistant where it's located ... in mostly shade.

What variety is this?
How in the world can Aggieland get it? Who? Special order?
I really don't need much .... Zoysia seeds from two sources/types not working under ideal conditions.

Thanks

I have a At. Augustine variety called Palmetto that is supposed to be more shade and drought tolerant. It does apoear to be improved over some of the other varieties but I'm not sure any are truly shade tolerant. I'm very hapoy with the Palmetto but it still needs sunlight- it gets thin in deeper shade under trees. It does seem to be much more drought tolerant so this may be the variety that was recomnended. Palmetto variety was very hard to find 15 years ago when I researched it and first planted it but it seems readily available around DFW now.

Call King Ranch Turf Grass on I-10 in Katy. Only about an hour max drive from C.S.

You can buy Palmetto and other grasses direct from the farm. Contact Thomas Turf Grass Farms in Industry Texas just outside of Industry Texas near New Ulm on FM 109 just outside of Brenham. A lot closer than going to Katy from C.S. They also have the best grass at a good price. Hope this helps. Dont fall for the Randy Lemmon hype, he will take your money and run. Attached is link. There home office is Wharton but they have a farm off 109 between Industy and New Ulm.

St Augustine is the most shade tolerant turf but still requires a minimum of 3 to 4 hours of sunlight per day. There is no turf that will survive in heavy all day shade.

Watch out with Floratam, a lot of herbicides listed as safe for SA will say in the small print they aren't safe for Floratam.

I'm curious, why does the St. Aug need to be "VERY drought resistant" for that spot?
