I'm going to do some planting in my backyard and I'm not exactly sure where at the PVC is for my sprinkler system. I know generally where, but not exactly. I'd hate to bust some with my shovel. What are some easy tricks for avoiding the PVC when planting?

Hire a water witch.

This has worked everytime for me. Has worked on copper, pvc and galvanized so far on propane, sewer, and water lines. You have to be careful about tree limbs or power lines above as they can cause errors.

I have a round nosed shovel that has the uncanny ability to locate them, usuall when I don't want it to.

Honestly, they arent that hard to patch. I did about 75' of trenching last summer and the ditchwitch went right through 3 lines, it took about twenty minutes to fix all three when I was done.
