Getting melted plastic material off stainless steel grill

I don't want to tell the story because it's just going to piss me off, but I had a patio furniture cushion thrown onto my stainless steel grill while it was hot and it melted the cushion to the grill. This left a good chunk of the cushion on the grill which I scraped off as best I could while the grill was hot.

Now that the grill has cooled down the "film" left on the grill now feels like a hard plastic. I'm looking for suggestions on how to get this off. .. .maybe a heavy duty stainless cleaner that could cut through that material? I tried scraping with a razor blade but its too hard to do it without scratching the grill. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks!

for the burn if off suggestion, are you talking about blasting the grill and burning it off from the heat of the grill. .. or are you talking about directly burning it with an outside source?

I would try using the grill heat first.

Maybe hit it with steel wool or a grill brush.

Turn the grill surface over perhaps.

I would personally build a fire either with coals or wood and then put then grill/grate on that, that way any residual plastic isn't going to get stuck down in your grill or on a burner.

But I'm in the burn it off crowd. It won't hurt the grate.

Scrape off what you can, get the grill as hot as it can, burn it, repeat.

Or find someone with a glass bead blaster

Simple green makes a heavy duty grill cleager foam spray. I haven't tried it on plastic, but maybe worth a try.

Either burning it off or by mechanical means are your only ways of cleaning this up.

OP, is the plastic cushion on your grill grates or on your grill lid?

Grill lid...

Definitely should have clarified. My apologies. Thank you for the responses so far.

What about a heat gun or hair dryer, and use a credit card to scrape it off? I would think your grill can handle the heat.

Turn Grill Back on.
Heat to 350+
Wear gloves
Wash off plastic.
If that doesn't work buy new lid.

WD40. Spray it, let it sit, wipe off. Burn the grill after use.
