The DE filter tank/bulkhead (whatever you call it), a Nautilus 60, cracked and leaks pretty bad right at the outlet. They no longer make this model, so the new model requires replumbing the inlet, outlet, backwash, etc.
My question is three part:
1) I believe part of the reason it cracked and I've had other issue at the connection is the poor condition of the concrete pad. Do they make a prefab concrete pad for pool equipment like they do for AC units? If so, where would I get one? I asked a pool guy and he said it was a whole separate thing getting a concrete guy out there to replace the pad and made it seem like a bigger deal than I thought it should be.
2) If I'm replacing the filter and plumbing anyway, is there a better option than DE? Like something cool or new that I don't even know about?
3) I also just got the pool replastered. Would this be a good time to change to saltwater? May not have anything to do with the filter aspect, but if I'm replacing equipment and have new plaster, just figure might as well consider going all the way.
