This last storm that came through Houston put down some decent golf ball sized hail In our area. Do I need to contact a reputable roofer first to inspect it or contact insurance people first. The shingles are black so it seems a little difficult for me to see damage, especially if I haven't seen hail damage before.

I looked online too at pictures and what to do, but want to see what some TexAgers have done.

Who are some good quality roofers around Houston?

You ever heard of a roofer NOT saying you have hail damage?

You contact your insurance agency... They will come out, draw a square and count the number of dents in the square. If it's over you get a new roof.

Do not contact a roofer...

Look at your gutters, vents, screens, ac. These will all show damage if your roof has damage.

Looked at 9 roof claims today in Elkins lake subdivision in Huntsville. Paid them all. Anyone living in that area should file a claim.

We got hit hard just outside of Bellaire and the insurance company has signed off on replacement. Who's a good, reputable roofer in Houston?

We used Jon Wright. Real professional. He has a Dallas number for what ever reason but he works in Houston: 214-718-3748

Insurance approved a new roof for us. I searched here on Texags and found Steve Osborn at Shearwater Roofing. More than a few people recommended him. So that's who I went with. We are still in the process of getting details worked out.

FWIW.

It wasn't hail, but a recorded tornado came extremely close to my house and the insurance guy said he couldn't find any damage. It would have been nice if insurance would have covered at least some of the replacement cost.

I don't understand. Your insurance guy said there was no damage and you replaced it anyways? What was wrong with it? Was it just old and time to replace anyways?

It's a 20yr old roof that started leaking after the storm. So yes, I'm going to replace it regardless.

Yep. A bunch of my neighbors are getting new roofs, and my truck, 2005 F-150, was totaled out but I bought it back
