Planned on going with a Bosch, as quietness is a big factor because our living room is very open to the kitchen, but figured I should ask opinions first to see if anyone had other suggestions. Thanks!

Oh and buying within a day or so.....planning to go to Best Buy because I've got $150+ in reward cash to there

Bought our Bosch 3 yrs ago when we did a large remodel. Our kitchen is completely opened up to our living room and I can't even tell that's it's on unless I'm standing right by it.

I wish I knew what cheap PoS our landlord installed in the rental we just moved out of. That thing sounded like a 747 going through a flock of geese on takeoff. If we ran it and tried to watch a movie in the next room, we had to have the TV up to 50 to hear the dialogue.

Bosch. These are the two models I narrowed my list down to for new house: Bosch shx65t55uc or Bosch she8pt55uc.

Current place has the shx and it's super quiet and I dig the layout. Only issue is that it's a steam dry so some items (cups) don't get completely dry. But as you can see, doesn't bother me enough to not buy it again.

Boschs are quiet because they don't have food grinders. Or at least try didn't when I was shopping a couple of years ago. Just make sure you're ok with the technological differences.

Food grinders have lessened in popularity. If you do your research, you'll find that KitchenAid has currently done a good job with their lineup and received high marks.

We bought a 42 or 39dB model that has a self cleaning filter using some ultrasonic tech. I've got no clue if it works, but I've had it for about a yr and haven't had any issues. I was really impressed with how much insulation it had and the build quality.

Here are the top ranked dishwashers from a popular product review magazine. Ranked in order #1 listed on top, KitchenAid model.. For many appliances the last couple of letters in the part # is for color. You can shop using the base part #. I have a Bosch and love it. I did not think our old unit was very loud until I purchased the Bosch. I had to walk up to it to see if it was running.

The newer units do have longer cycle times; and save a lot of water. As gpank mentioned, the Bosch is an air dry but is not a problem. Just crack the door open after the cycle completes. It saves energy and you don't have to worry about where to put plastic.

I do not mind emptying out and cleaning a filter vs having a food grinder. Some people do.

Get the Bosch with the third rack, I thought it looked dumb, but now I wish I had it.

Looking like I'm going with the SHX right now, they have 2 open box ones at my local Best Buy, marked for $336 off.....but the guy said he can work on the price, see what else I can get it down too.

Both have minute scratches you can barely see

I have Bosch. It's crazy quiet.
Cleans perfectly.
Has annoying beep when it's done...and keeps beeping every once in awhile. Guess I'm supposed to crack it at that point??

No heating elements...but I've stillmelted certain plastic things. Others are fine. Guess it has to do with the plastic type

My only real complaint is the layout in the bottom. It's significantly worse than any I've ever used.

We have a stainless GE with hidden controls that we bought 3 years ago. It works like a freaking champ and is super quiet. Also doesn't have the thing you have to clean out on the Bosch's. It's the best appliance we have.

Our Bosch is quiet and cleans well but doesn't dry at all! Wouldn't buy another for that reason.

Turns out both open box ones were sold but the guy apologized for not having it marked as so & ended up ordering me a brand new one for the open box price. Should be at the store Monday.

I've heard that about Bosch.

Mine dries okay. It won't dry a large amount of water like on the bottom of a bowl, or in the grooves of Tupperware. If it were glass, it'd dry fine, but the plastic doesn't retain the heat long enough to evaporate the water in a humid environment.

We've had a Bosch for years. Still seems as quiet as the first day of installation. Initially the lack of heating element was an adjustment but it's no big deal now.

Bought a kitchen aid after my customer that owns a high end appliance repair company Highly recommended it. He doesn't like Bosch since they are not made in the us and can be difficult to get parts. Also the lack of heating element which means wet dishes so you have to leave door open to allow them to dry.

"Also the lack of heating element which means wet dishes so you have to leave door open to allow them to dry."

this isn't exactly true. anything non plastic comes out immediately very hot and dry.

I am.looking at both Bosch and Kitchen Aide for our new house. I dont like not having a heated dry cycle. The local independent shop, i.e. not HD, Lowes, said that both sell well and they haven't had much trouble out of either. I did like that the Kitchen Aide had actual drawer slides for the racks and not just wheels on an open tract.

Bosch with the third rack, more than I wanted to spend but it's been worth it. No heated dry isn't a big deal, just have to dry off anywhere that water pools on the plastic, but that's it. As long as it runs overnight everything else is dry in the morning.

I don't put any knife or wooden spoon/spatula in the dish washer. Because of that is the 3rd rack really that useful?

They are in to appliances as well. We have one of their canister vacs. It was a bit pricey but it's 10 years old now and runs like new. Good stuff.

How would a new dishwasher do with low water pressure? We've been hanf washing bc our older one doesn't clean with the low-ish pressure from our well water. Is it worth upgrading or would we still have the same issue in a new washer?

I can't comment on the bosch's too much other than the fact that we did want to have a heated dry cycle available so we didn't choose bosch. We did buy a kitchenaid and have zero regrets. It is both quiet and powerful.
Sazerac

Bosch had a heated cycle!! It just doesn't use a loop of heated metal in the bottom of your washer, it uses steam.

I didn't either - until I got a Bosch with the third rack.

They don't have the same problems that they do in other dishwashers. Maybe it's the lack of a drying element. I don't know. It just works.

Seems like Bosch is the overwhelming favorite of Texags. We are getting a kenmore as our Christmas present to ourselves, though. Can't comment on the dishwasher as we don't have it yet but we've been very pleased with all their other appliances.

Kenmore bids out all their appliances to other suppliers. They fridges have been LG for years. Their washer/dryers have been LG and Whirlpool. Not sure on dishwashers.
htxag09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, we actually like that more about them. They tend to go with higher rated suppliers for each appliance. But since it's all packaged as kenmore all the finishes still match each other.

They're known more for their major appliances. Vacuums came along later. FWIW ours cleans everything except for exceptionally horrible stuff I had no business putting in there in the first place.
