In our living room we have a ceiling fan that has a light fixture on it. There are two switches in the room that control the fan/light.

When we turn on the light, it only works for 5-6 seconds and then turns off by itself. It does this when either switch is used.

Any ideas?

You need an old priest and a young priest.

What color is the house?

Seriously, tell me the color and I'll tell you it's most likely the black box wattage limiter in the light kit that crapped the bed. When they fail, they tend to make lights blink or shut off.

Thanks Obama.

If you're handy you can bypass it, but it voids the warranty and UL listing. But still works. You can also get a replacement part

If it is a multiple lamp fixture, you can temporarily remove one of the bulbs to lower the wattage.

Thank you. Is that something I can pick up at a Lowes or HD or do I need to go to the manufacturer?

Google watt limiter or ceiling fan parts. HD and Lowes usually don't have them.

You don't want to replace it you want to eliminate it.

Something similar happened to me several years ago, and UnderoosAg solved my problem then. You want to find the black box and remove it from your fan assembly.

Thanks everyone. Quick question. All of the videos have 2 colored wires that are cut and capped together and two white ones that are cut and capped together. Mine has the two colored wires but only one white one.

Can I just cap the lone white one by itself?

Yes, the white wire is your neutral wire and maybe pigtailed together already upstream leaving the lone pigtailed white wire connected directly to the watt limiter.

All done. Works just like it should. Thanks to all for the help.
