I have a couple of questions that maybe some of you could possibly help me out with.

What's the current going rate for concrete per sq. yd.?

Any recs for concrete contractors to put up forms, steel, and finish with me buying the concrete?

Any contractors that I should stay away from?

We are looking to build a 2100 sq. ft. home and just received our first bid for the slab with me purchasing the concrete and I was shocked by the price. I'm hoping that it was my higher bid.

Any suggestions would be great!

Where are you building? Generally in the Houston and BCS areas you are gonna be looking at $90-100 a yard unless you get a sweetheart deal or are working with a builder that can get a better deal.

We're building in Grimes County. I can get concrete for $91. I think that's a pretty good deal. We're looking at 3400 sq. ft. with porches and a car port. I've been quoted $4-$5/ sq. yd. for the labor and that's with me buying the concrete.

Virgil Ponce(evolution concrete and pumping) or his brother Luis do average to good work.

John Tucker(Tucker construction) does great work.

Ricky Palasota(brazos valley services) below average work imo.

Tucker will be the most expensive most likely. I'll check my notes this afternoon and see if I can think of some more folks.

Thanks for the info!
I've heard great things about John Tucker as well.

Maybe my math is wrong but they want $1900 to do the forms and rebar and I assume place and finish 3400 SF of concrete and you think that is high?

3400 SF = 377 SY

377 SY * $5/SY = $1900

Oops. It should've said $4-$5 sq. ft. not sq. yd. So yes, that's high. Can be as high as $17,500 plus concrete. Concrete is another $16,000.

the foundation is incredibly important. you don't want to get a bad concrete contractor who says they know what their doing and actually doesn't and your slap cracks after just a few years
