How long do you want to ignore this user?
New home with a very small backyard and am looking to make it a place we can enjoy without spending a ton. Other than DIY planter beds, anyone have any good ideas for patio, water features, etc? TIA

Any products make grass pulling/killing easier for small beds?

How are you wanting to enjoy your backyard? (Entertaining, children's play area, relaxing area, etc)

Probably more of a relaxing/sitting area and nice landscaping.

Thinking small decomposed granite area in one of the corners with some planters. Maybe a fire pit in the middle. Trellis and couple other beds and new trees elsewhere.

Digging up Bermuda grass for some of this may have me think twice!

Also might like to stain current concrete slab connected to house.

If the yard is small, consider Crepe Myrtles instead of traditional trees. They're impossible to kill, and you control how big they get based on how you prune them. Should prevent foundation issues from planting other trees close to the house.

Instead of decomposed granite, I prefer brick pavers that are on sale at lowes this weekend. The have standard red or tan ones instead of the ugly ones in the link at my location. Less DG gets tracked into the house, which can scratch up hardwood floors. And they're cheaper than flagstone.

As far as furniture, I go the budget route and cruise by Academy middle to end of August when they put their patio furniture on clearance. I'm sure other stores do the same. It isn't the greatest, but you cna replace it multiple times for the cost of the good stuff. Only the stuff I have that gets hit with salt water rusts.

Keep it simple in a small backyard. Round table, 4 chairs, grill, firepit with some benches. All that stuff can be moved around as needed. The planter beds are little more permanent. Try out container gardening before commiting to the beds.

Thanks for the suggestions. I would definitely prefer the brick type surface but am trying to avoid that type of project requiring renting a compactor, etc. unless you can get by without one.

Home Depot has a firepit kit, or you can buy the individual bricks and firepit insert. Incredibly easy, I put it together in an afternoon and it's still going strong 2 years later. I don't see the need to do anything more fancy than that personally...
