I have a standard A frame ladder and need to change a light bulb over our stairs. Are there any tricks to use my ladder on the stairs safely or do I need to but an adjustable ladder or something?

borrowing a little giant would be the safest way.

I can't really think of a way to use a standard A-frame ladder on stairs.

Get one of these, no ladder involved. Have one and it actually works.

I would go buy a latter that leans to one side only. Play it safe my friend.

I just had to deal with this, sort of, to replace the fixtures above the stairs.

I ended up being able to get to the fixtures from a step ladder at the balcony. But I still need to do something to finish painting the 2 inch line at the ceiling from when I repainted that area.

My plan was to build a platform that would extend over three steps. Using a 2x4 piece of 3/4 plywood and 2x6 wood for the legs. Plan to have the legs go to both steps so that it is really solid. May still try to rig some sort of pole and brush to paint it first. I get on ladders all the time, but I am not excited about climbing a ladder on a platform.

Get a telescoping ladder. You can set it in an A frame configuration where one leg is longer. They cost $150 and up though.

just use buckets...

on a serious note you could use the ladder at the bottom of the stairs to make scaffolding depending on how high up you need to get

or somewhere in between serious and joking if you have a folding table:
