Put in about 2.5 pallets of new zoysia back in April in a dog free part of my yard that I fenced off. Started of great and hole yard was very green. Few spots of dead thatch now and 1 end of the yard has stopped growing while rest must be mowed weekly. Advice? I'm in Keller area. Water 2x/week, 13min per zone.

How much direct sunlight does that area get? St Augustine needs 4, zoysia needs 6, Bermuda needs 8.

Hard to tell for sure but if those picture are a good indication of the amount of sun light that area gets, no grass is going to grow there.

If you absolutely have to have grass, try seeding fescue in the shady areas this fall. Reseed every year, though not as heavy once it is established.

Thanks. I hadn"t really thought about how little sun the area gets, but the shade in the pics is about as bad as it gets. I also thought Zoysia was about as shade tolerant as St. Aug.

I trimmed back some trees/bushes in the area that should allow some more sun in the morning. There is a school gym about 30 yds East of that part of my yard so that doesn"t help with the AM sun but maybe it will green up some. If not I can try the seed this fall.
