I have an LG front load recent model washer. Most of the time I wash bathmats, the unbalance error comes on. I have washed just one and it still comes on. I put it on the lowest spin cycle and still get this issue.

The washer otherwise works well.

Am I doing something wrong or just the nature of washing bathmats which obviously causes a balance issue?

Mine does that too. I just try to spread them out as flat and evenly as I can each time and hope for the best.

Our LG top load washer does the same thing with blankets, etcs. Can be a real pain in the butt.

So I guess this is just how it is. So how do people wash bathmats if not in the washer?

I have an older model front-loading LG. I always get the error if I try to wash one bathmat. I sometimes get the error if I try to wash two (a large one and a small one). If I add a third item, like a large bath towel or beach towel, to the washing machine with the two mats, I don't get the error.

I don't know anything about front loading. Our HE top m loader was getting unbalanced with even small loads. I had to replace 4 suspension rods which holds up the outer tub. They looked fine, but werent. It was an easy repair and fixed the problem. By the way, you should also take part your washer, it's probably filthy...Our sure was.

Is it properly leveled? Our Duet did that frequently until I releveled it.

We've never had a problem with ours doing it. I think my wife usually washed full loads though, so like above, maybe adding a couple extra items will allow the load to distribute more evenly.
