Hey guys, rookie lawn caretaker here andI have a couple of weeds in the backyard but most noticeably in the front yard. I was thinking of pulling them out by hand this weekend. I know there is also stuff to spray on them but I'm not exactly sure what kind of grass I have and I don't want to do any damage.

Would pulling them out be a good option or just dumb, unnecessary yard work? After I pull them do I just wait and fertilize in a couple of weeks or should I apply anything? I live in North Dallas - Frisco/Little Elm area.

If it is pretty bad you can nuke it with this stuff and not harm your lawn:

Weeds only thing growing right now so yard looks rough. A lot of these weeds will be choked out by grass and killed off with warmer temps.

Typically, your weed problem is caused by cultural deficiencies.

The weed seedbank is so fantastically high in the average soil (commonly thousands of weed seeds per square foot) that if you pull weeds without curing the cultural problems (poor irrigation, poor nutrition, poor aeration, etc.) the weeds will continue to come back.

A healthy yard will certainly outperform all but the most vigorous weeds.

What herbicide is the best for nut sege grass? It hasn't come up in my yard yet, but I am sure it will soon. I used a product called Certainty last year with inconclusive results.

If you have carpet grass, just feed with cheap fertilizer, water and mow often. Solves most problems.

Certainly true statements above, but I'll add that it's tough to keep weeds out of lawns of grass like Bermuda at the end of winter. When your yard is dormant it needs help from you to keep the weeds out.

Bottom line if you get your grass back in spring it should choke out the weeds if you are doing the "cultural" things as stated above. The big boy weeds can certainly be pulled. That'll help your lawn.
