Thoughts on these trees? I had a volunteer come up to about 6 feet y'all. I dig it up in the fall and replanted to a better location for me.

Should I keep/hack down this little tree?

I planted one 30 years ago and love it. Good shade, pretty in the fall. I've heard comments that they are invasive but I have had zero issue with suckers or seeds.

There is an invasive concern with pistache, but not anywhere near Chinese tallow.

Many Chinese species are overly-adept at adjusting to our climate. So much so that they can overtake native species (i.e. Chinese tallow)

They are listed as an invasive in the Austin area now, but I bought a few before I discovered that. However, they are also listed as a "Texas Superstar" by the Ag Hort. Have a male and female in the back yard that I planted from 4" B&B and have grown well, though I don't particularly like the berries on the female.

Yea...my main concern is the female with berries. I have a bunch I crappy black birds already. Not hoping to add more.

Can you tell at 6 feet If it male or female?

The berries are present all year round. You should be able to identify the sex when purchasing. I did not specify when I ordered from a tree farm and since they were trucked in, I didn't waste anyone's time with rejecting the female.

Having said that, the berries hardly ever fall and I have not seen any wildlife eating them. Birds appear to nest in each tree equally.

BQ...that was a nice lob huh? You knocked that one out of the park.

That is great to know about the berries not falling to ground. That was my worry. Having a bird farm under the tree...

Great tree. I've had two and they are great.

HOWEVER, make sure and get the one without the berries. I have an issue of rats in the trees eating the berries.
