Looking at getting wood shed for backyard. Anyone ever bought one from lowes or Home Depot? DIY kit? Probably about 10x12 or so. Other do's or dont's based on experience of others?

I have a barn style 10x12 with a mezzenine for extra storage. It is awesome, but right now its full of kids bikes/crap.

I see shed places sell them on the side of the road once you get out of town. They will likely pre-build one and assemble on your property for a low cost. It's worth it!

I called a shed company and had them build a 10x10 in my back yard for <$1200. They dropped 2 Mexicans and supplies off in the morning and I had a shed by mid-afternoon. They even made it a custom height and matched the house shingles so it met the HOA's stupid requirements. The outside came already primed so all I had to do was paint.

I was considering a DIY, but it would have only saved ~$200 and would have taken me much longer to do myself. Not to mention I had mine built in the summer when it was 100 degrees outside. In my opinion, having someone else build it is the way to go (unless you really want to do it yourself).

Mrz, where are you located? Looking for a Houston shed builder recommendation.

I'm in Houston. I used Mega Storage Sheds. I just checked my reciept and the price was actually 1239 before tax so around 1340 for the final price.
That was for a 10x10x8 shed with a 5x6 door.

Did that include some type of foundation?

The foundation included is just the thin (~4")cinder block pavers and 4x4's. I've had the shed for 1.5 years now and haven't noticed any problems with the foundation.

I thought this thread was a wood shed (as in storage place for logs) at first. It was ALMOST relevant to my interests.

Tuff Shed with hardi-plank for best quality

I put in an 8x12 with steel joist foundation over pulverized granite base and had electrical wired and painted to match the house all for around $3000.

I bought an 8x12 kit from Lowes. Wasn't hard to assemble, but just kind of weird since everything was pre-cut and had to go in on certain place so if you are familiar with how something should be framed out, you will be putting things together out of order based on their directions.

tuff shed doesn't mess around.. solid quality.. i took a sawzall to this 8x8 (http://forums.texags.com/main/forum.reply.asp?topic_id=2361235&forum_id=50&topicid=2361235) and turned it into a 4x12 to fit along the back of my garage.. ended up reusing everything but the steel foundation, 4 ft of the roof, and the side with the door frame.. even reused the nails and trim.. took longer to cut it apart and move it than it did to put back together.

just my.02 but if you are buying a pre-built shed for a wood shed I would use the all plastic or all metal types. No matter what the wood will eventually get termites/bugs and it won't be good.
