Short version......

Master bath toilet is clogged. I've repeatedly plunged it (which does get the water down). I've repeatedly snaked it as well. Snake goes all the way in with no obstructions.

Toilet still won't completely flush.

Any home remedies I should try before I pull the toilet?

if you pour a bucket of water in the toilet quickly does it flush down?

No. It will slowly drain though.

I was thinking of another possible problem that may be contributing.

We have a double sink vanity in the same bathroom. One sink is not draining effectively. The other sink is fine. I've poured Liquid Plumber and Drano down that pipe with no noticeable effect. Do you think there might be an issue with the vent pipe? It seems like that would affect both sinks, not just one though.

I wish I could claim the toilet clog was do to a big country dump but I think it has more to do with those dang feminine products not being disposed of properly. I've already had that talk with the wife.

I feel sorry for what you must do.

Find your cleanout outside of the house. Rent a roto-rooter thingy. Get some gloves that go up to your elbow and duct tape them to your sleeves, get a face shield or goggles, and rubber boots.

Run the rooter down the cleanout, aggressively. It should feel kinda dirty.

Pull the rooter out, clean the tip, repeat.

When done, shower profusely, then pour a drink.

Eat more fiber, too.

What dahouse said...and also pray that it's not roots in your sewer line.

Maybe its a recently clogged vent line?

I just went through a main line stoppage at a rent house I own so I've been through that mess. I got off "easy" as the plumber only charged $350 to run his auger through the main line. That one had a root ball from a bush we planted several years ago.

If the main line was clogged, wouldn't all of the toilets/drains in the house be affected?

This happened to me. The problem was the flange had moved and was mostly blocking the sewer line. New wax seal and flange and problem solved.

I'm pulling the toilet tonight. Wish me luck. I'll probably video the experience so Tampax can use it in a commercial to show the super absorbent strength of their products. FML.

As for the hazmat suit, maybe I should have the wife remove the toilet? That seems like proper penance.

I had something wedge in the curvy part between the bottom of the bowl and the entry to the sewer line in the floor. Had to take toilet up and turn it upside down to see what it was...a plastic tampon cover thingy. Had wedged perfectly perpendicular to the inner walls and just caused flushing to be "slow".

Update.......

Removed the toilet. Could see water at the first bend of the drain pipe (12" down). I ran a 30' auger through a few times and pulled out 2 exploded tampons. That's the worst kind of "fishing" I've ever done. I made sure to rub the wife's nose in it to show her she was bad.

I also ran a 40' flat line with a spade bit. It made it through with little resistance.

I then dumped a few pots of hot water straight down the open drain. The level never rose and it appears to have drained properly. The only concern I have is I still see that same standing water at the bend of the pipe. Is this normal? Do toilets have a P-trap?

Either way, I put the toilet on and it's flushing better than the day we bought it.

The p trap is integral to the toilet design.

I wasn't referring to the toilet P-Trap. I'm curious if there was one in the main line (i.e. the line that the toilet dumps into. Once I removed the toilet, I could see some water pooled right where that drain makes its first bend. As I said, it never impeded the few gallons of water I poured directly into it so I put the toilet back on.

Maybe the drain wasn't sloped very well when it was installed. Since water drains freely I wouldn't be too worried.

Do women really not know to NOT put certain things down the toilet......

Based on my experience this weekend, the answer is "NO!"
