How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I think this is the weekend I'm going to tackle the first major DIY project in the new house.

From what I've read it's not too complicated.

1. Dig up all grass and level.
2. Lay weed barrier
3. Pour sand
4. Lay flagstone
5. Pour in crushed granite
6. Rinse to lock

Seems like the hardest part is going to be removing grass and leveling.

Any tips or pointers?

Whatever base you use needs to be tamped down to help ensure stability.

Here is the link to my post on installing our patio. Instead of using sand as a base layer I used the granite. Then after laying the stones I filled all the gaps with the granite, then watered and repeat. So far everything has settled very well and I have had no problems with uneven settling.
