How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have what I believe to be Asian Jasmine growing in two large beds in my front yard.

I don't mind the way the stuff looks, but its too tall. Its 12-14 inches tall. My neighbor has the same stuff, and his is only 6-8" tall. Can I mow the stuff down? Will it survive? When is the best time to do this?

I have tried weedeating it down, but it doesn't go low enough and its a giant Pain.

wonder if a hedge trimmer would work better?

I recently planted a bunch of it in one of my beds as well. Below is what I found.

quote:
Prune Asiatic jasmine in the late winter when plants are dormant. Trim with hedge clippers or mow the entire area with the blades at the highest setting. Propagate new plants with the healthiest clippings leftover from pruning.

On that note, I think a hedge trimmer will work fine as well.

I had it at my old house in HUGE beds. I
got tired of weed eating it and someone here suggested mowing it. it worked very well. but I got curious looks from neighbors pushing a mower in a bed

I've got it. I love it for bed ground cover. Seems tough as nails so I wouldn't worry about hurting it.

I bet the hedge trimmers would work, although if its alright to mow it, that'd be the easiest on my back.
I'm not sure the mower could even handle it, though. Maybe I'll give the hedge trimmers a try first.

We have a similar ivy plant that we whack with the hedge trimmer a few times a year. It looks funny for a few days then fills in.

Yep, not really anyway you can hurt it without actually trying. People have a very hard time trying to get rid of it if its not something they want.

It might look funny for a week or two, but eh leave will fill back in and it'll look as healthy as ever.

so is the consensus to trim it back in the winter? Spring? Now? Or does it even matter?

I have no clue what time of year is best but trim mine with my string trimmer every couple of weeks from spring to fall.

I do that, too. But this is going to be a lot more extensive.
