Odd sized bifold doors

My washer and dryer are in a little nook in the kitchen area in my condo. It is very unsightly and I would like to hide them a little. The size of the nook is in between sizes of the standard bifold doors. It seems that my options are to either have the doors custom made (expensive), leave a gap in the middle, or make some sort of frame around the opening. Does anyone have any other ideas or advice? Right now, I am leaning towards making a frame.

Could you purchase the larger size and rip them down to fit?

We had some ugly bi-fold doors at the entry of our master bedroom. Like others have said you can rip/trim down the door if the fit isn't exact.

I was able to remove the bi-fold doors, leave the existing door frame, buy 2-24" 6-panel doors and cut off a bit on all 4 sides to make them fit. If you'll be using a similiar 6-panel hollow core door you'll be able to rip up to ~.75" before you start getting into trouble.

Another option is to consider going to a three-leaf design.

Which may depend on how handy you feel you are.

For laundry cubbies, you "three leaf" by having three identical door panels, two hinged together as a bifold, and the third as a single, hinged, door.

This takes a bit of finagling, as you want the hinged & bifold sections in the correct sequence. And, you want this before you start hanging that top bifold track and setting the doorstop in the frame.

If a person were less-handy, they could apply to a custom shutter shop to build a set of doors to work in the manner intended. Which would include an option of hinging the third panel to the middle panel. (This could be DIY, too, but, it's finicky work that will induce pulling hair out in fist-fulls.)

Reframe and make it a regular 36" door? Is there a reason to leave it that wide?

If I framed it into a normal sized door, I don't think the space is deep enough to allow for the dryer door to open. There are also cabinets hung above the W/D that might have trouble opening. I measured the opening again this weekend, but left the damn measurements at home. I think the gap will likely be 2" or less, so I am strongly leaning on putting some sort of frame. Either way, this project just got pushed back a little bit. The fiancée just informed me that my hanging vertical blinds, circa 1969, need to go, so looks like the next project is curtains.

Got to a full service lumberyard and custom order "pre-framed bifold doors". We custom ordered a door for my mom's house that was an odd size and the price was more reasonable than we expected.

It just dawned on me that you really can't make the opening smaller or you couldn't ever replace the w/d!

This.

Best way to search is for a millwork facility.
in SA - BMC millwork.

Houston/Dallas have BMC as well.
