What type of Contractor would I need to replace a dryer duct booster fan? They'll have to cut a hole in the sheetrock ceiling to access it, fix or replace with new, and patch the sheetrock. Mine is constantly running and is loud. I'm assuming dryer lint is stuck in the baffle that triggers its operation, preventing it from closing. About a month ago, I used my gas powered leaf blower to clean this line, and although it fixed the problem of it being loud, it was still constantly running. As of today, it's back to being loud and constantly running. I'm located in Houston if anybody has any specific recommendations.

I would say HVAC or possibly a plumber (?). How close is your booster to the vent origination? I lived somewhere that had a similar issue, and it turned out that the booster was too close to the source and the fan would get clogged with wet lint. I moved the booster further down the line and never experienced an issue again.

It's a 9 ft vertical rise from the back of the dryer to the ceiling. Booster fan is in the ceiling just above the dryer.

It then has a 25 ft horizontal run to the discharge on the side of the house. Being 2 story, and this all having restricted access, I don't see that moving it is an option.

I would discuss with a contractor… I think HVAC would be best, but you might start at a small, knowledgeable appliance store (not a box store). Mine was about 8 feet from the dryer and had issues like you describe. I moved it probably about another 8 feet away, and it worked much more efficiently. Perhaps there is a product that would work within your constraint, but it’s going to take someone much more knowledgeable than me.

Something like that should be accessible by an access panel. If not now, after you have it replaced I would have it installed. that way you can service and clean it.

If it plugs in or has a junction box, that has to be accessible as well.

Thanks for the replies. There will definietly be an access panel installed for any future service / problems.

Called several HVAC Contractors and none of them were up to the task. I found this company (http://www.dvcservice.com/Pages/default.aspx) and they're coming out next week to take a look at it and repair / replace what I have. I'll have to hire another Contractor to put the access door in.
