What is the best way to attach a shower head with a a hose to a bathtub faucet? My wife and I are renting a house and the guest bedroom only has a bathtub. We want to add a shower head to it, but do not want to replace the whole faucet. Any thoughts?

So its a tub, with just a faucet to fill it, but not diverter or shower outlet above?

If so, im pretty sure you will have to remove the 'spout' part and replace that spout with a new spout that has a diverter and provisions for the hose built in. Id get a plumber to make the swap only because I assume this home must be 80's vintage or older and it might not 'disassemble' as cleanly as you would like. Should be an easy swap out though.

That's correct. My theory is there is something that when we want to use the shower head we can, but other times just unscrew it (or just fill the tub up via the shower head if someone is so inclined on taking a bath)

you can buy a faucet that has the lift diverter and an attached hose/shower head....buy a tension rod and shower curtain and you are good to go!

So is the best way to get a new faucet and take the old one out? I wanted to try avoiding that since it is a rental but if they are not too terribly hard to change out I can change it back when we leave the house

no, leave it in place when you move...it is an improvement over tub only usage. The only problem is making sure the fittings are the same but the faucets are screw on....it will be $50-100 total...maybe less.

What type of a surround do you have around the bath tub. If it's plain dry wall, you don't want to use a shower adapter are you will destroy the walls.
